PERNEM: Authorities have directed few hoteliers along the coastal belt of Pernem to offer food to stranded foreign tourists at various places in the taluka.

During a joint meeting held by Deputy Collector Pernem Chandrakant Shetkar with Tourism officials and sarpanchas of villages along the coastal belt, it is learnt that around 500 foreign tourists have been stranded at various places such as Morjim, Arambol, Keri and Tiracol due to the lockdown.
Officials informed that these tourists have contacted their respected embassies who have been making efforts to airlift them back home. However, the tourists whose visas have expired will be sent back to their respective countries in a phased manner.
Some social workers are providing food to these stranded foreign tourists. However, the authorities have directed a few hoteliers to offer food to them.
Shetkar appealed to the owners of rooms in which these stranded tourists are residing on rent to continue providing accommodation to them. Shetkar called upon the tourists to stay in their rented premises during the lockdown.
