PANJIM: The District & Sessions Court has reserved order on Zenito Cardozo’s anticipatory bail application for July 28 as it concluded hearing into the matter on Thursday. Cardozo is accused by Old Goa Police as a prime conspirator in the St Cruz murder case of June 20.
During final arguments, Advocate Arun Bras D’Sa appearing for the accused alleged that the prosecution has deliberately, mischievously and with a malafide intent suppressed the genesis of the events. He submitted before the court that the police are hell bent on falsely implicating Cardozo by spinning facts when he had no role to play in the incident.
The prosecution led by PP Roy D’Souza justified that Cardozo’s role into the crime surfaced after the interrogation of few other accused in the matter. The claim was contested by the defence, who stated that police’s version that a dispute between the rival gangs because of a “woman” was consistent till last press conference earlier this month.
The court, on hearing arguments from the prosecution and the defence, reserved the order for July 28. Around 23 persons are arrested in connection with the case that killed one gang member while three juveniles are apprehended. Police’s hunt for Cardozo has been futile till date.
