Six absconding accused nabbed

VASCO: The Vasco police on Friday arrested six more accused persons involved in assault case reported outside the Vasco police station on August 17, 2016.  
According to the Vasco police, victim Santana Corrira, who is also the complainant in the case had identified and named six accused persons among a group of 20 who had assaulted him and two others including Nazeer Ahmed and Tayabali Syed, both resident of New Vaddem Vasco.  
Following his complaint, the Vasco police managed to arrest one Hitesh Singh (21), a resident of Birla Zuarinagar, on Tuesday evening and six others were arrested on Friday, while other 13 unknown accused persons are still at large. 
“We received information from sources that the absconding accused persons have been hiding in a place outside the State. Thus, our team first traced a mobile phone in possession of one of the accused persons. Their area was shown in Chennai and our team thus followed them. Finally, it was understood that the accused persons were coming down to Goa and thus our team kept a constant vigil on them and when they reached near Hotel Mardol in Verna on NH17 road, they all were arrested,” said a senior police officer.
The arrested persons are identified as Baswaraj Sashtri (23), Mehboob Sheikh (21), Venkatesh Rathod (24), Sudhir Kerkar (20), Santosh Kerkar (21) and Govind Devar (22), all residents of New Vaddem. 
All of them have been arrested under section 143, 144, 147, 148, 324, read with 149 IPC. PSI Suraj Kankonkar is investigating the case.
It can be recalled that 20 people were booked under several sections of IPC for forming unlawful assembly armed with deadly weapons like hockey sticks, dandas, baseball bat, metal punch and knife and assaulting the complainant outside the Vasco police station.
