Married women in Goa celebrate Vat Purnima

The festival of Vat Purnima
is celebrated annually all over Goa during the month of Jestha. On this occasion, a married Hindu woman prays for the prosperity of her husband and longevity by
tying a ceremonial thread around the banyan tree.

The significance of this
festival is connected to the legend of Savitri and Satyavan, wherein Savitri
brought her husband back to life from Yama.
