PORVORIM: Locals of Salvador do Mundo are fed up of the sleepless weekends and decided to act against the disturbance from late night parties and the loud music played by a guest house allegedly operating illegally at Donvaddo.
On last October 20, there was a late night party at an allegedly OYO guest house at Donvaddo which forced the intervention of the police at 1.00 am to stop the loud music being played at this party that was being attended by outsiders.
Former Sarpanch of the village Sanjeev Naik told Herald that the nights are meant for rest but there is a particular guest house in Donvaddo that is playing loud music till the wee hours of the morning.
“The students, senior citizens as well as those going to work are being deprived of their sleep on the weekends. Such activities should immediately be stopped by the concerned authorities. This is disturbing the peaceful atmosphere at night in our village. The panchayat should revoke the NOC if issued to run a guest house/hotel after this issue,” he said.
When Herald contacted the Sarpanch of Salvador do Mundo, Sandeep Salgaonkar to check if the guest house had the required permission and if they received any complaint about loud music he said the local panch brought it to his notice that there was a party going on till late at night and was disturbing the neighbours with a loud music.
“I called the police and got the party stopped. The locals have also given me a written complaint regarding the same. The owner of the place had approached us to grant him permission to rent his premises and had also applied for an NOC. After the incident occurred last Saturday it came to light that they are making noise and disturbing the surroundings and hence we have decided not to grant him any permission,” the Sarpanch said.
Another local who lives nearby this guest house revealed that the people who come here book their stay via OYO. This guest house has a field facing view. Last Saturday between 11.30 pm and 12 midnight the people who were attending a party there began harassing a local by not allowing him access to take his vehicle home.
“They play music and shout as mostly all are drunk. They create a nuisance for locals as they play music till early morning and disturb the surroundings. The guest house does not have much parking hence most of the vehicles are parked outside blocking the access of locals. Every weekend this is the case. At first the people kept quiet as the owner is a local and has probably given the premises on lease but last Saturday night it got out of hand and hence the locals acted on the same,” told the local on condition of anonymity.
