CALANGUTE: Calangute Police arrested two people allegedly involved in inter-state extortion cases in New Delhi and they have been lodged in police station lockup and remand of five days police custody has been obtained.
Calangute police had registered an offence on February 7, based on a complaint by businessman Ravi Madduri, a resident of Mollembhat, Saligao and a native of Andhra Pradesh. In his complaint, he stated that on February 5, three unknown people with their common intention, wrongfully confined the complainant in a private apartment and further intoxicated him by giving him alcohol to drink. They threatened him and made the complainant to transfer money to their account by extorting an amount of Rs 5,60,500.
An offence under Sections 342, 328 and 384 read with 34 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered.
In this connection, the call details of the accused were obtained by the police and the location of two of the accused were found to be in Delhi and Haryana.
Based on the analysis of mobile call details, a team at Calangute Police Station was formed.
After obtaining details regarding their movement and capturing various CCTV footages, the accused were found in Goa and it was confirmed that they had left via Dabolim airport.
The car used by the accused persons was attached by the Calangute police from the parking area in Dabolim airport.
The team on reaching Delhi and with the assistance of the Special Cell of Delhi Police, intelligence regarding the two unknown accused was collected and surveillance was maintained.
After six days of continuous surveillance in Delhi area, the accused in their mid-twenties namely Parveen Kumar, a resident of Haryana and Vinay Singh, a resident of Delhi were arrested on February 20 after a chase. The accused were later produced before the Patiala House Court in Delhi and a five-day transit remand was obtained. Calangute police team along with the accused arrived at Calangute Police Station on February 23. A separate police team has already left Goa to trace the third accused.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to have committed another similar extortion crime at Porvorim earlier this year on January 22 and hence they are also found to be involved in a crime registered under Sections 364-A, 394, 342 and 504 read with 34 IPC at Porvorim Police Station. The Porvorim police would be obtaining the custody of the accused once the remand of Calangute Police is over.
Further investigation is in progress under the supervision of PI Jivba Dalvi, SDPO Kiran Poduwal, SP North Chandan Choudhary, IPS and DIG Paramaditya, IPS.
