PONDA: Cuncoliem village in Priol constituency was plunged into darkness on Monday when mango tree crashed on a transformer and four electric poles, snapping overhead wires on account of tree cutting works undertaken by a private party at around 4 pm.
The Electricity Department suffered major losses however the labourers involved in tree cutting escaped with minor injuries when the electric poles came crashing down. Luckily, there was no one passing by at that time. Due to this, around 70 houses were left without power supply as the officials said that it would take one day to restore power supply to the area. Following the incident, sarpanch Laxmikant Khedekar and Executive Engineer Suresh Wadekar from Curti Sub Station rushed to the spot along with electricity department personnel. The work has begun, however power would be restored on Tuesday, Wadekar added.
