PANJIM: With 253 new COVID-19 cases, Goa on Monday reported the lowest daily count of cases in the last two and a half months, while new deaths also reduced to single digits.
Though on Monday the State reported 253 new cases, the positivity rate continued to be high at 14.92 per cent, while 720 COVID-19 patients recovered in the same period.
This has taken the active tally count to 4406. The State has so far reported 1,62,721 cases of which 1,55,378 have recovered and 2937 died.
On Monday, the State recorded deaths in single digits for the second time within four days. Of the nine deaths, four were recorded at Goa Medical College and Hospital, two at South Goa District Hospital and one each at Sub District Hospital, Ponda, and at two private hospitals. Of these, one patient hailed from Maharashtra.
The decline in cases has brought relief to the State that saw a surge in daily cases since March. The rise in the death count, that even touched 75 in a single day, was worrisome.
In April, there were 33,013 cases reported wherein the positivity rate had crossed 50 per cent towards the end of the month. Likewise, 64,594 positive cases were reported in May. The highest number of cases in a single day was reported on May 17 where the tally touched 4008 new cases.
