PANJIM: Goa University defeated host Amity University, Noida 2-1 in the first league match of the All India Inter Zonal Football Championship for Men, at Noida, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday.
Goa University took the lead in the 12th minute through a well placed header by Devendra Pednekar off a measured free kick by captain Jesmon Carvalho.
Amity University equalized against the run of play just before the half time break.
The match winner for Goa University came through a beautifully struck volley by Saddam Bannati off a pass by forward Razor Braganza in the 73rd minute of play.
