Police seize tanker transporting diesel to offshore casino

5, including tanker owner arrested; 6000 litres of fuel and tanker seized

PANJIM: Acting on a tip-off, Panjim Police on Friday seized a tanker near the Captain of Ports (CoP) jetty and nabbed five persons, including the tanker owner, driver and three others for illegally transporting diesel to a casino vessel anchored in River Mandovi.
According to police officials, DySP Serafin Dias obtained information through reliable sources and coordinating with Panjim PI Siddhant Shirodkar and his team conducted the raid, which also netted 6000 litres of diesel and the tanker.
“The accused did not have any proper safety and security measures and were transporting fuel in a negligent manner endangering human life. They also did not have any invoice to prove possession. The diesel is suspected to be stolen and transported from Margao to Panjim,” police officials said.
Police arrested driver P K Mohammed Shaikh (54) and tanker owner Abdul Kadar (42) both residents of Davorlim, South Goa. During interrogation it was revealed that there were another three persons also involved in the act.
Acting on the information police arrested the other three accused namely, Abdul Karim Mohammedsab, Nazir Shaikh and Shakeel Naik. All five accused have been arrested and charged under sections 379, 285, 120(b) under IPC 7of the Essential Act and under Section 23 of the Petroleum Act, 1934.
Police have also confirmed that the accused have been remanded for three days police custody.
