VASCO: The residents of Mangor, Vasco on Saturday staged a protestagainst the contamination of drinking water due to discharge ofsewage.
Taking to the streets the residents charged that water near the Marutitemple had been contaminated due to release of sewage.

The residents said that the water pipeline passes through gutterscarrying sewage and they faced health issues on many occasions in thepast. They demanded that the water supply pipeline, which is old, mustbe changed immediately.
Mormugao councillor Narayan Borkar said many residents had complainedvomitting and diarrhoea during the last 10-12 days.
“When I had gone to the site to check, I found the foul smell
emanating from the water pipeline. I spoke to the residents and calledthe PWD supervisor on the site. The supervisor carried out aninspection and he identified two locations where there werepossibilities of contamination,” the ward councillor said.
Borkar disclosedthat one of his development projects of constructinga new gutter has been sanctioned and that he had asked the PWD toremove the water pipelines from the gutter and place them outside soas to avoid chances of gutter water mixing with drinking water passingthrough the PWD water pipeline,” he said.
