Pernem taxi associations demand action against cabs violating rules at Mopa

Pernem: Members of various taxi associations from Pernem have submitted a memorandum to Assistant Director of Transport Pernem demanding action against All India Tourist Permit taxis at Manohar International airport for violating taxi permit conditions.

They stated that as per the Motor Vehicles Act/Goa Motor Vehicle Rules, 1991, it was mandatory to operate Yellow-Black Taxis at Manohar International Aiport, Mopa. But unfortunately, these All India Permit taxis were operating at the airport, further violating the permit conditions.

They pointed that as per taxi permit conditions, a vehicle shall not be parked on public stand or in a public place offered for hire and shall be used only for the convenience of tourists and public. The vehicle owner shall not obstruct any vehicle or tourist from choosing a vehicle of his or her choice for transportation anywhere within the State. 

It also states that the permit holder shall not form any unlawful assembly and obstruct free movement of tourists or public in transport medium of their choice. The permit is liable to be cancelled upon violation of this condition.

Members alleged that around five to six counters are provided to the private parties and all these parties are using All India Tourist Permit Taxis to cater to the needs of the Tourists / public on the Airport, which is violation of permit condition with the blessings of Government of Goa and the Transport Department.

“It is the duty of the Transport Department to keep vigil on the violators of Motor Vehicle Act and Goa Motor Vehicles Rules, 1991, but unfortunately on the Manohar International Airport, All India Tourist Permit taxis are violating the permit conditions,” members of the Pernem Taxi Association alleged.
