750 hectares of paddy crops destroyed in Pernem

PERNEM: More than 750 hectares of paddy crops were destroyed in Pernem taluka, according to an initial assessment by the government officials.
Chairing a meeting on assessing losses suffered by the people, Deputy Chief Minister and local MLA Manohar Ajgaonkar has instructed the officials to prepare a complete report of the total losses suffered by the people in the taluka and also prepare an estimate of the compensation to be paid to the affected families.
Responding to the direction of Ajgaonkar, Pernem Deputy Collector Chandrakant Shetkar informed that the report relating to the loss suffered due to destruction of houses and household items would be prepared by the PWD and the report on paddy crop loss would be prepared by the Agriculture Department.
It was decided at the meeting that the PWD and Agriculture Department would form different teams to prepare a report of losses by inspecting and surveying the flood affected areas. Ajgaonkar instructed the teams to submit the reports by August 15.
Meanwhile, Dy Collector Shetkar has appealed to flood affected people to immediately contact the BDO and his office with their claim for compensation. He also appealed to the farmers to immediately contact the Zonal Agriculture Office.
Others present for the meeting include Pernem Mamlatdar, Pernem Police Inspector Harish Madkaikar, Pernem Fire Station in-charge Namdev Parwar, Zonal Agriculture Officer Prasad Parab, PWD officials, talathis and sarpanchas of flood affected villages.
