Verna Police on Wednesday arrested a 20-year-old mason from Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) Verna in connection with the murder of 23-year-old woman from Zuarinagar-Sancoale.
It may be recalled that on October 22, 2010, Sharda Patil was found dead at her residence at Zuarinagar, while the accused was absconding.
Verna Police arrested the accused Ajay Choudhary, native of Madhya Pradesh, but presently residing at Zuarinagar, on charges of killing Patil.
After the autopsy was conducted on the deceased, police had confirmed that Patil had died due to strangulation, while some nail marks were seen on Patil’s neck.
“After it was confirmed that the deceased was murdered, we launched a manhunt and we have managed to trace the mobile phone of the deceased, due to which we got major lead,” said PI Jivba Dalvi.
“We have verified all phone numbers saved on Patil’s mobile phone. However, when we were calling the accused, his mobile phone was switched off and after detailed verification we once again tried calling him, as he was reluctant to respond to the call,” said PI Dalvi.
He further said after constant efforts, police traced the accused at IDC Verna on Wednesday and arrested him.
“During the course of interrogation, the accused confessed that he killed Patil, as she owed him some money. Since the deceased refused to repay his dues, the accused killed her,” added PI Dalvi.
