Goa took a 78-run lead with two wickets in hand on the third day of their second innings against Tripura in the Ranji Trophy Plate Group match at GCA stadium, Alto Porvorim on Friday.
It was a defiant unbeaten 113-run partnership for the 8th wicket between Shadab Jakati (75) and Robin D Souza (48) that guided Goa to 319 for 8 in 87 overs and rescued the hosts from the jaws of an innings defeat
Resuming at the overnight score of 128 for 4, Goa piled up a respectable total thanks mainly to S K Kamat’s 70 which had 11 hits to the fence and Shadab Jakati’s 75 studded with 10 fours and a six.
It was Tripura’s right arm medium pacer Timir K Chanda who bowled an excellent spell, his career’s best and took the day’s honours scalping six Goan wickets. He claimed in all, 10 wickets giving away 147 runs in both the innings so far.
Play was delayed today due to unseasoned rain overnight and this morning today. Play started only after lunch.
