PANJIM: Dhiraj Rai, Urmila Mense, Siddhant Parekh, Tanisi Kirtani emerged champions in men’s, women’s, junior boys and girls categories respectively in the finals of Panjim Gymkhana’s open major ranking table-tennis tournament, at indoor hall, Panjim Gymkhana, Campal, here, on Sunday.
In an exciting men’s final of a seven set thriller, Vaibhav Dahibhate worked hard byut eventually went down to Dhiraj 11-4, 9-11, 10-12, 11-6, 6-11, 11-6 and 8-11.Earlier, in the women’s category, Urmila defeated Vrushali Prasade 11-3, 12-10, 11-7 while Wesley Do Rosario lost to Siddhant Parekh 2-11, 9-11, 10-12 in the junior boy’s event.
Lusofonia gold medallist Tanisi reigned supreme in the junior girl’s category by thumping Urmila Mense 9-11, 11-4, 7-11, 11-4 and 11-4.
Richard D’Souza, principle chief conservator of forest was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Narahar Thakur, joint secretary of Badminton Association of India; Gaurish Dhond, vice-president; Sunilkumar Naik, joint secretary, Suresh Karapurkar, treasurer and Sanjay Pednekar, member of Panjim Gymkhana.
