CHORAO/OLD GOA: Women from self help groups from Chorao on Friday protested at Old Goa Police station against the complaint filed by the Chodan-Madel sarpanch in connection with alleged hurling of tomatoes during the recent gram sabha.
It may be recalled that during the Chodan-Madel gram sabha on February 16, women from four self help groups and villagers allegedly hurled tomatoes on a pancha and the secretary over the issue of false complaint filed against the women.
According to police sources, women from self help groups, the sarpanch and the panchas were called at Old Goa Police station on Friday morning. However, the complainant, Sarpanch Divya Usapkar and other panchas, did not turn at the police station, while the women group members waited for nearly two and half hours, before they were asked to go home without any inquiry.
The women from Chorao, who were present at the police station, alleged that the complaint filed by the sarpanch is politically motivated, which was filed six days after the gram sabha.
Women said a large number of police personnel, besides BDO observer and others were present for the gram sabha.
When contacted, the Old Goa Police informed that last time around when both the parties were called at the police station, the sarpanch had turned up, but the villagers failed to turn up. “On Friday, the sarpanch could turn up as she had informed that she was busy with some meeting,” said the police
