MARGAO: Asserting that Goa does not need a second airport for the next 40 years, the South Goa MP has said that Mopa airport has been kept in cold storage.
“The upgraded Dabolim airport has a capacity to attend to six million passengers a year. The question of another airport at Mopa does not arise at all. Hence Mopa has been put in the cold storage”, he added.
When pointed out that Mopa airport continues to
figure in the list of Greenfield airports in the country, Sardinha said, “The issue had once come up before the Parliament Estimates Committee headed by me. Nothing has been done on the airport except acquisition of land. When one of the members sought to know the status of the Mopa airport, I told him since I come from Goa, the issue should be left to me to handle. There’s no scope for Mopa anymore”.
