PANJIM: After a drop in cases over the last few days, Goa’s daily COVID-19 positivity rate reported a sharp increase on Monday, registering at 36 per cent. At the same time, at 79.69 per cent, the recovery rate showed a further improvement.

However, the rising COVID fatalities continue to worry health authorities. In the last 24 hours, 53 patients lost their lives to the virus, taking the total mortality tally to 2152.
As per the bulletin issued by Directorate of Health Services (DHS), of the 4265 tests conducted, 1542 tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours. The figure is slightly on the higher side compared to Sunday, when 1314 new cases had been reported.
The positivity rate that had dropped to 34 per cent on May 16, saw a two per cent rise in cases reported within 24-hours.
The day also saw 189 patients admitted to hospitals while 836 opted for home isolation.
As on date, a total of 1,37,418 people have tested positive for the virus, of which 1,09,513 have recovered. On Monday, 4,008 patients were declared cured. The State has 25,753 active patients.
Meanwhile, of the 53 deaths reported on Monday, 23 died in Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) while 27 succumbed at the South Goa District hospital.
One death each was reported at the sub-district hospital Ponda, public health center Dharbandora and at a private hospital in South.
