The Goa Bench of Bombay High Court today directed the State government to appoint experts from the account section along with a retired judge from the High Court on the committee formed to examine issue of arbitrary fees charged by unaided private schools.
The division bench of Justice A S Oka and Justice F M Reis asked the government to appoint some of the expert from the accounts section or to have an educationist on the committee before submitting the report.
The court was hearing the petition filed by All Goa Unaided School Parents Association (AGUSPA).
Advocate General Subodh Kantak has sought time till Wednesday to come out with the names of the experts before the court.
Court gave its order after Advocate Peter D’Souza, appearing on behalf of AGUSPA pointed out that before getting approval for the committee report there is need to study the financial status of the school, which could be done with the guidance of experts from audit fields.
Earlier, this week, State government had sought five weeks time to submit the final report on fee structures for unaided schools. The committee formed by Directorate of Education (DoE) had said that they need five weeks time for providing its recommendation.
D’Souza also cleared that the Section 19(3) of Goa School Education Act, which allows schools to have their own fee structures, the approval from the DoE is a must.
