MARGAO: A 22-year-old youth, Sajan Katariya was arrested by the Maina Curtorim police for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl in the jungle near Verna.
Police stated the accused, presently residing at Verna and a native of Uttar Pradesh happens to be a distant relative of the victim.

“Katariya forcibly took the minor girl to a lonely place in the jungle and had forceful intercourse with her. The victim is now in the 11th week of her pregnancy,” said police. It is learnt that the family initially approached the Verna police station to lodge a complaint however the case was later referred to the Maina Curtorim police station since it falls in their jurisdiction.
PSI Deepesh Shetkar based on the complaint lodged by the victim has registered an offence Under Section 363, 376 (8) of the Goa Children’s Act and Section 4, 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
