PONDA: A youth from Tisk-Usgao found himself at the mercy of luck, or rather, the lack thereof, after missing a scheduled job interview due to the lethargic attitude of his local post office.
The unfortunate incident unfolded when the youth filed a job application for a position at Bal Bhavan. Despite receiving a letter from Bal Bhavan on March 1, inviting him for an interview on March 9 at 9.30 am, fate had other plans. The letter reached the Usgao post office on March 4. However, due to the postman being on leave, it was only delivered to the candidate on March 9, the same day as the interview, and at 10.30 am.

The candidate’s excitement turned to disappointment as he realised he had narrowly missed the interview due to someone else’s mistake. After consulting with his family and friends, the candidate approached the postman, who acknowledged his mistake. In a written statement, the postman accepted responsibility for the letter reaching late, and causing the candidate to miss his interview.
While it remains uncertain whether the candidate will be granted another interview opportunity, many have expressed astonishment that some government offices still rely on traditional, time-consuming methods of communication in the age of ‘Digital India’.
Following this incident, there have been calls for government offices to adopt faster and more reliable notification systems, such as WhatsApp messages or email, to ensure timely communication with recipients.
