Panjim: The State government on Friday convened the 35-member Expert Committee meeting on the New Education Policy (NEP) and decided to form three sub-committees for smooth implementation of the policy by next year.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant chaired the virtual meeting, which was also attended by educationist and Shiroda MLA Subhash Shirodkar.

Former CM Laxmikant Parsekar is the Chairman of the expert committee.
Speaking to reporters, Shirodkar said that the 35-member meeting was held virtually and discussions were held regarding how to go about the implementation of the NEP.
“We will appoint three sub-committee of pre-primary, secondary and higher secondary. These committees will deliberate on the infrastructure, syllabus and by February they have to submit the report so that the new policy can be implemented by next academic year,” Sawant said.
Interacting with the media persons earlier, Shirodkar said that the meeting was fruitful as the State government formed a 35-member Expert committee to finalise the new State Education Policy.
“The meeting decided to form three committees to finalise our syllabus, infrastructure etc and report will be submitted in next three to four months,” he said.
Shirodkar added that they will decide on vocational studies and the remaining syllabus will come from NCERT. He further stated that up to the 12th standard will be semester exams and no more board exams.
The Union Cabinet approved the National Education Policy 2020 in July, making way for large scale, transformational reforms in both school and higher education sectors. This is the first education policy of the 21st century and replaces the thirty-four year old National Policy on Education (NPE), 1986.
