NAVELIM: Varca SC emerged Salcete Zone winners of the GFA Third Division League, defeating Tilamola United SC 5-2, at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Monday.
Both teams were reduced to ten men after referee Sharad Naik sent off Tilamola defender Antonio Carvalho and Varca defender Quelon Alemao.
Tilamola started the match brightly and enjoyed the first ten minutes of the game as they had couple of chances to score.
First, Mecklon Colaco’s goal bound effort was blocked by Varca defender Quelon Alemao. Minutes later, Tilamola were denied once again when Assli Carvalho’s diving header came off the Varca goalpost but Varca defender Francisco Fernandes was quick to react to clear the ball to safety to thwart the danger.
Minutes later, Varca striker Bapan Chayyal on receiving the ball from Daniel Fernandes, dribbled past Tilamola defender Antonio Carvalho before shooting at the goal which was easily collected by rival keeper Selvin Costa.
Mecklon Colaco opened the account for Tilamola in the 15th minute when his header kept the Varca keeper on his feet. Assli Carvalho’s corner kick was poorly cleared by Varca defender Quelon which was capitalised by Mecklon.
Tilamola almost doubled the lead in the 38th minute but his solo effort missed the Varca nets by whiskers.
Tilamola Fedrick Carvalho came to his team’s rescue when he tackled Clivo Colaco to thwart away the danger.

Assli Carvalho on collecting the ball from Reston Carvalho slammed a powerful left footer which gave no chance for the rival keeper, 2-0.
The introduction of Joel Fernandes by Coach Caji made the difference for Varca in the second half.
Varca sc came from behind and scored quick five goals
Just after Varca were denied by the cross bar in the 49th minute, Quelon Alemao made it 1-2 in the 52nd minute from the spot kick after Tilamola defender brought down Xavier DSilva, the striker of Varca in the 51st minute.
Antonio Carvalho of Tilamola and Varca’s Quelon Alemao received straight red cards in the 63rd minute for violent conduct.
Despite both teams being reduced to ten men, it was Varca side, which enjoyed better football and scored four more goals.
Clive Colaco equalised for Varca in the 73rd minute before Jhonus DCosta scored the third in the 80th minute.
Substitute Joel Fernandes scored a brace netting in 82nd and 85th minute to take the final tally to 5-2.
