PANJIM: Parish Youth of Nuvem got the better of Verna Sports Club 5-4 via the tie-breaker to secure the top spot in Nagoa Panchayat Cup football tournament organized by Pax of Nagoa Sports Club on February 24 at Nagoa panchayat ground, Nagoa. There was no score at full time.
Both teams failed to take the lead in both the sessions. The teams fought tooth and nail to score the all-important goal but to no avail. Both the custodians, Parvaraj Joshi (Nuvem) and Franky Abranches (Verna) came to the rescue of their respective side’s, pulling off some spectacular saves to keep their respective slates clean.

In the second half, Neves Noronha’s acrobatic kick from inside the penalty area was brilliantly saved by Franky. Ivon Colaco of Nuvem and Samson Menezes of Verna were given the marching orders by referee, Seby Moraes for their violent conduct on the field.
In the tie-breaker, Neves Noronha, Gammy Costa, Stanly Colaco, Sebyton Colaco and Aldrich Pereira scored for Nuvem while Stanly Pereira, Martiso Abranches, Santan Rego and Benny Abranches converted for Verna.

Best midfielder: Santano Rego (Verna). Best goalkeeper: Franky Abranches (Verna). Best disciplined team: Sao Jose de Areal.
Francisco Xavier Pacheco, MLA was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Fr Livio D’Mello parish priest of Nagoa, Juliana Gurjao e Colaco assistant director of DSYA and Wilfred D’Sa. Reuben Costa, Maria Monteiro, Treza Faria and Lourenca Gama were among those present.
