PERNEM: A restaurant in Mandrem has been discharging its waste water at the Ashvem-Mandrem beach in the vicinity of Ajoba Temple much to the annoyance of locals.
Sarpanch Amit Sawant stated that he had informed the health officer regarding the issue and stated that no action has been initiated against the wrongdoer till date.
By obtaining permits for temporary constructions, many businessmen here have erected concrete luxury cottages in the vicinity of the Ajoba Temple at Ashvem even by violating the CRZ law.
Locals lamented the fact that those violating the law get scot free as authorities develop cold feet in initiating action against them.
Meanwhile, a similar incident has taken place at New Wada, Morjim, near Shri Brahman Dev, where a non-Goan hotel owner has released sewage water hotel in the temple area.
“The Health Department has not taken any action on that either and I appeal to the health officer to enquire if the restaurant near Ajoba Temple has the required NOC or not,” said the sarpanch.
Meanwhile, many people have built temporary constructions on the shores of Morjim, Ashvem, Mandrem, Keri and Tiracol and released waste water from the washrooms into the sea.
