240 voters re-issued EPICs at Sancoale

CORTALIM, FEB 5 Around 240 voters were re-issued Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) on the first day at a special drive held by the Mormugao Mamlatdar at Sancoale Panchayat.

Around 240 voters were re-issued Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) on the first day at a special drive held by the Mormugao Mamlatdar at Sancoale Panchayat.
According to sources, significant number of voters came from the migrant community, which were nearly 50 per cent.
A look at the EPIC register could find the names of Chalwadi, Hussain, Ballapa. In fact a source from the Mamlatdar office told Herald that of late there has been tendency particularly among migrants to changes their names, to include Goan names.
Interesting, while the voters from the migrant community were seen squatting on the Panchayat pavement early in the morning, their Goan counterparts however preferred to make to the EPIC centre after afternoon siesta.
Sancoale which has a base of 15,000 voters out of which, 11000 voters are migrants (non-Goans) and only 4000 voters are from Sancoale.
The issue of EPIC will also be held on February 6, which will be the last day, at the Sancoale Panchayat from 10 am to 6 pm.
