BENAULIM: Jhonus D’Costa’s solitary goal helped Varca SC defeat United Club Nerul to enter into the semi-finals of the Cana-Benaulim Panchayat Cup, organised by St Sebastian Union Club, Benaulim, at Sao Joao de Baptist ground, on Thursday.
Varca SC started the match with forefront moves and had the first shy at the goal in the second minute as Vellroy D’Cruz sent in a long ball to Nash Pereira who dribbled past UC Nerul’s defenders and shot from close but the keeper managed to lay his hands on the ball.
At the other end, UC Nerul’s striker Bhavesh Khandolkar’s header missed the target by whiskers in the 6th minute.
Varca surged ahead in the 16th minute through Jhonus D’Costa’s power packed shot off Joylon Cardozo’s connect.
UC Nerul tried their level best to get back into the game but Varca SC defended brilliantly to sail on a solitary goal lead into the semi-finals.
