MAPUSA: Goan Football registered their first win as they drub Football Club de Bardez 4-1 in the Goa Professional League match organised by Goa Football Association played under floodlights at Duler Stadium, here on Tuesday.
The Young Gaurs coach Clifford Miranda made number of changes in the line-up as Liston Colaco, Jonathan Cardozo, Yasir Mohammad, Kingslee Fernandes and Jason Barbosa were back in the starting XI, whereas Bardez coach Armando Colaco made no changes to his side from last match 6-0 win over Vasco SC.
Bardez created their first potent chance in the 11th when Shubham Dessai tried to find Kirtikesh Gadekar with a fine cross from the right flank but Goan defender Jonathan cleared it for a corner.
The next few minutes were restricted to midfield play as both the teams were trying to keep the ball, which ended up with a swift attack from the Goans where Liston sent a perfect cross to Aaren D’Silva in the box but the frontman saw it go wide by hairline distance.
However, Aaren made no mistake to take his side in the lead in the 35th minute when he made an easy tap-in from close to Liston’s fine cross from the right, making it 1-0 for the Young Gaurs.
It was just three minutes after the first goal when the match witnessed second goal but this time from Bardez. Clinton Niasso converted from the spot after Goan defender handled the ball in the box to give away the penalty to opponents.
Goan came out stronger in the second session and took just two minutes to take the lead when Bardez keeper Aliston Fernandes failed to collect Liston’s long ranger, taking advantage of the same, Aaren placed the ball in the back of the net to make it 2-1 for Goans.
The fans had hardly settled down from the last goal, Liston once again brought them to their feet as he nicely sent the ball back of the nylons after receiving a short pass from Yasir who dribbled past few in his run before entering the box.
Bardez reground after conceding two quick goals at the start of the second session and came out all attacking but Goan keeper protip Das cleared every danger to keep his side safe. In one of these, Caetano Viegas found Shubham in the box but the striker was brilliantly blocked by the Goan custodian.
Liston also had a couple of chances to add to the tally but Bardez keeper Aliston brilliantly denied the striker on both the occasions, whereas Aaren also had a chance to complete his hat-trick but his lofted tap missed the target narrowly with Bardez keeper completely out of position.
In the 85th minute, Goans scored their fourth goal through Saviour Gama. In the event, Bardez keeper brilliantly paired Liston’s goal-bound free-kick from top of the box which rolled to unmarked Gama in the box who blasted in from close making it 4-1 for the Young Gaurs.
