PANJIM: Congress party stated that it will demand action against Manohar Parrikar-led government before the Election Commission of India for presenting the State Budget 2014-15 hours after the announcement of the polls thus violating the election code of conduct on Wednesday.
Addressing media persons on Thursday, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President John Fernandes expressed his unhappiness over the members of Congress Legislative party for not raising objection to the tabling of the Budget.
GPCC has decided to write to EC seeking action against BJP-led government for violating the election code of conduct. “The Budget violates the code as it was presented after the elections were announced. EC would be requested to keep the State Budget on hold,” Fernandes said.
Fernandes said that the announcements in the budget were all election related sops which need to be kept on hold. He alleged that Chief Minister was spreading wrong notion that the House is supreme and can table the budget during the code of conduct.
“When the code of conduct is in force even President of India is not supreme,” he said pointing that even the President and Governor are not appointed when the election code is in force.
He said that the budget was hypothetical and lacklustre and promoted the party’s bogus election propaganda. “Parrikar is day dreaming that the BJP-led government will come to power in Centre,” he said. Parrikar after presenting the budget had rubbished claims that his action violated the election code of conduct claiming that the “House is supreme” and he has every right to present the budget.
