Salgaocar FC thrash Calangute Assn

Guardian Angel, Signals play out 2-2 draw

MAPUSA: Salgaocar Football Club thrashed Calangute Association 5-0 in the Goa Professional League match organised by GFA, played at Duler Stadium, here on Saturday.
Salgaocar who were in total control of the match scored four goals in the first half through Ribhav Sardessai(2), Mackroy Peixoto and Godfrey Mascarenhas while Rollwin Almeida got the fifth goal in the second session.
Ribhav Sardessai put Salgaocar ahead in the 11th minute with a deft placement from a neat build up move initiated between Devendra Murgaokar and Rollwin Almeida.
A costly defensive error by Calangute gifted Salgaocar their second goal in the next minute which was capitalised by Mackroy Peixoto who without wasting any time slotted the ball into the net to make it 2-0.
With the top half of the table being so closely contested in this year’s league a superior goal difference is a must and Salgaocar continued with their attacking intent and got the third goal in the 24th minute through Ribhav Sardesai after Ronaldo had passed the ball.
Calangute who were completely blown out by their opponent’s attacking threat had the best opportunity in the 37th minute as Nicolau Colaco’s long ball found Sachinanand who not only outsmarted a couple of Salgaocar defenders but also the keeper and laid the ball on the platter to Mohammad Shahsad who to everyone’s surprise failed to guide the ball into the empty net.
Godfrey compounded further misery by heading in the in the fourth goal for Salgaocar in the 45th minute from a corner taken by Samson Pereira.
Calangute further inflated the score sheet in the second minute on crossing ends when Rollwin Almeida getting hold off a pass from Godfrey intelligently rounded the Calangute keeper Savio Paes and rolled the ball into the net to make it 5-0.
With a job done and full three points, Salgaocar kept the ball to themselves for the rest of the match and had a last attempt in the 80th minute but the Calangute keeper denied substitute Stephen Satarkar with a smart save from close range.
Meanwhile, at Rosary ground, Navelim, Guardian Angel were once again held to a frustrating 2-2 draw despite being two goals up until the hour mark against Corps of Signals.
Joaquim Carvalho gave the Curchorem side the lead in the first half as it turned out to be the only goal in the first session. Crossing over, Nicholas Rodrigues continued to put up good performances and also doubled the account for his side in the 50th minute.
But Guardian Angel couldn’t sustain the lead as they conceded the first at the hour mark when P Thakur reduced the margin before L Singh netted the equalising goal in the 75th minute.
