PANJIM: St Estevam gram sabha on Sunday unanimously passed a resolution for inclusion of Roman script in the Official Language Act.
The proposal for the resolution was proposed by Mariano Ferrao, Coordinator of Konknni Global Forum.

The resolution has requested the Commissioner for Linguistic Minorities, Delhi, to stop the discrimination done to Roman Script by granting official script status to Roman Script along with Devnagari, by amending the Official Language Act.
“We do understand that politicians are responsible for this injustice to the Roman Script, and they will never amend the Official Language Act, to make Roman Script as official script of Konknni along with Devnagari. The Global Konknni Forum will be taking a different approach to resolve this discrimination to Roman Srcipt in Konkani Official Language Act by approaching and filing a petition with the Commissioner for Linguistic Minorities,” the resolution said.
“To file a complaint before the Commissioner, we need resolutions from many village gram sabhas as this will support our claim that minorities from different villages are demanding for their fundamental right to protect their language and script,” the resolution added.
The Global Konknni Forum had written to the panchayats to take the resolution to write to the Commissioner for Linguistic Minorities to stop the discrimination done to Roman Script and to grant Roman Script Official status in the Official Language Act along with Devnagari.
