During the heavy downpour in the city of Panjim on the Miramar stretch of the concrete road constructed by Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC), near Sharada Mandir School and the area up to the Pergola gets water logged. This also happens at the high tide. Despite new drainage system having been constructed, water does not find a way out and takes a long time to drain out at the outlet on Campal side.
It is noticed that the sand of Miramar beach blocks the drainage system every time this gutter is cleaned up by the authorities.
Highly reliable source have revealed that five years back, a tender was floated by the PWD but till today no new drainage system has been put in place because the GSIDC is waiting that this drainage system will be taken up by Smart City mission.
Whilst both are playing the wait and watch game, the citizens from Miramar and those using the Circle to go to Caranzalem and beyond are suffering due to the constant flooding.
The delay and the conflict of interest between the PWD, CCP and GSIDC has put the general public at Miramar into great inconvenience with this area being at a lower level.
It is high time the authorities take up this perennial issue immediately in order to stop the inundation at the Miramar Circle with the help of experts from India.
