MARGAO: Alleging that the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) failed to follow the court orders pertaining to fee collection at wholesale fish market, frustrated Margao Wholesale Fish Traders Association (MWFTA) on Monday demanded immediate suspension of the Member Secretary of SGPDA, and warned to file complaint before the Vigilance Department.

Speaking to the media persons Moulana Ibrahim, President of the MWFTA also alleged that extortion of money from the wholesalers and others continues at the market, despite court orders.
“The High Court had clearly mentioned in the order that SGPDA should appoint their officers to collect the fees at the wholesale fish market. However, the authority failed to implement the orders. No designated officer is noticed at the market to collect the fees and amongst the persons appointed not a single one has a position of officer”, Ibrahim claimed.
He further questioned stating where is the money going?
“Around Rs 36 lakh is collected from the wholesale fish market but not even half of the money is deposited before the PDA”, he alleged.
“We have now decided to approach the Vigilance Department to inquiry into the matter, besides the association will be writing to the Chief Secretary of Goa to suspend the member secretary of the PDA for failing to put in place and follow the court instructions”, said Ibrahim.
He expressed shock and surprise towards the no concern from the Health Department with regard to nuisances and unhygienic situations at the wholesale fish market.
