Lifeguards come to the rescue of five tourists

MARGAO/MAPUSA: Five persons were rescued from drowning at various beaches across the Goa’s coast, on Monday. 

At Cavelossim Beach, at around 12.35 afternoon, a group of people was bathing in the sea. Among them was a couple from Bangalore. A 29-year-old lady who was among the group drifted into the sea. On noticing this, Drishti lifeguards Jayesh Velip and Surendra Velip rushed to the spot along with a surfboard and rescue tube and secured the victim.

A 13-year old from Gujarat was rescued at Candolim Beach while another tourist was rescued at Cavelossim. In another incident at Arambol, a female tourist was saved.

Another foreigner swimming close by grabbed hold of the boy and alerted the lifeguards for help. Drishti lifeguards Achini Pemegam and Vinod Salekar rushed to the victim and secured by bringing him ashore with a rescue tube.

Two youth from Santa Cruz, one aged 21 and the other aged 28 went kayaking at the Palolem Beach. As they kayaked further, the kayak overturned into the deep waters and the duo found themselves in danger. The victims were secured on the Jetski and brought them back to safety.
