The winds of instability are blowing over the Raia Panchayat with the opposition tabling a no confidence motion against the Sarpanch Nazareth Gomes and his deputy Rumaldo Gonsalves on Tuesday.
Six members of the 11-member body have signed the notice of no trust against the Sarpanch and deputy Sarpanch accusing the duo for being incapable of performing their duties and for not taking the members into confidence.
The six members further claimed that the duo have been dictatorial and had been bypassing the Panch members at the time of assessment of works.
The signatories further said that the Sarpanch and his deputy have no interest in respect of the welfare of the village and are incapable in conducting the gram Sabha meetings peacefully.
The six signatories are Antonio Savio Gomes, Pedro Antonio Pinheiro, Jossica Fernandes, Conceicao A Ferrao, Menino Fernandes and Zelia Fernandes e Gonsalves.
Sarpanch Nazareth Gomes has been a close supporter of the Curtorim MLA Reginaldo LOurenco and it remains to be seen what strategy the MLA and his group in the 11-member body adopts to foil moves to dislodge the Sarpanch and his deputy.
