Margao: The people of Nagoa village have been complaining about the difficulties they face with the fair price ration shop for years now. Against that backdrop, the Nagoa village panchayat has written to the Director Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs requesting to allot a fair price shop in the village panchayat of Nagoa.
“This is to inform you that the village panchayat of Nagoa has decided to have and run a fair price shop through a panchayat resolution taken on August 25,” said Franky Vales, Nagoa Sarpanch.
This was following a resolution passed unanimously at the Nagoa panchayat meeting by all five panch members as the quota from the fair price shop in Verna is not sufficient and people have to walk almost 2 kilometers and face numerous hardships.
“People of Nagoa are facing great difficulties in order to get the ration quota from the fair price shop in Verna. People have to walk almost 2 kilometers, and Verna being a big village with a population of almost 8,000 people, it is more difficult for people of Nagoa as the quota supplied for both the villages is not sufficient. Further, the people of Nagoa have to wait in long queues for hours,” added Vales in his letter.
The villagers had called on the panchayat to speak to the civil supplies department to consider their case and do the needful for the benefit of the village and to avoid hardships.
Responding to their letter, Vikas Gaunekar, Director of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs has directed the inspector, civil supplies wing – Salcete Margao regarding the opening of a fair price shop in Nagoa panchayat.
“Please find attached herewith, a copy of the letter of the village panchayat on the subject cited above. You are hereby directed to inspect the same and give a detailed factual report for further action,” said Gaunekar in his official letter.
Sources added that the matter would have to be followed up once the inspection is carried out.
