MARGAO: In what may be termed as an insensitive act by the road transport officers, the RTO squad on Thursday afternoon held up school buses for over an hour at school, leaving hundreds of students irritated and hungry.
The incident happened at a city school where nearly hundred students of various age groups were held up in the afternoon, as the buses which carried them home were reportedly stopped by the RTO as the buses were non-commercial transport vehicles.
The RTO officials asked them to produce documents and the entire process took so long that the students were left hungry, as they waited for the bus to take them home.
One of the parents on the condition of anonymity informed Herald that many parents of the students studying at various schools of Margao were working and had limited time to help the children at home with lunch and to drop them for various tuitions and classes.
The parent added that they have no problem with the RTO officials stopping illegally-plying vehicles but said that these enquiries could have been conducted in the morning after the children were dropped to school.
Parents said a sensitive approach needs to be adopted by RTO especially when children were concerned.
