This resolution was moved by councillor Sushank Narvekar to be passed in the civic body’s ordinary council meeting on Tuesday. Instead of passing the resolution, the Chairperson deferred it, stating that it was moved at the last moment and the councillors were not prepared to pass it. “A special council meeting will be scheduled, and this will be taken into the agenda then,” said Chairperson Priya Mishal.

While Goa CM has asked citizens to support his signature campaign against the diversion, at least 20 Gram Sabhas have already passed resolutions demanding the scrapping of approval to Karnataka’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) for their dam projects that will change the course of the Mhadei.

The councillors also raised the issue of improper garbage collection in the municipal area. and pointed out that heaps of garbage can be seen littering the town over the past two months. The Chairperson blamed the issue on the shortage of labour, and added that several garbage trucks have broken down, hampering waste collection.
