PONDA: Barely two weeks after being accused of releasing furnace oil and wastewater from the plant, a factory at Usgao-Ponda has been blamed for releasing waste material into a rainwater drain along the NH4A at Usgao.
It may be recalled that on September 20 the company had allegedly released large quantities of furnace oil in the rainwater drain, while on September 28, the villagers claimed the factory released liquid waste.
Incidentally after the second incident, the company had assured to take precautionary measures. However on Tuesday, the villagers noticed liquid waste allegedly released by the company in the rainwater drain.
Aggrieved over the incident happening time and again, villagers along with panchayat members demanded to take strict action against the company officials. However, the company officials denied having released waste in the rainwater drain when Ponda Police summoned its officials to Ponda Police station.
Later, Ponda Police team along with Ponda Mamlatdar visited the site to take stock of the situation.
Ponda Police said they will submit a report to the Ponda Deputy Collector about the incident and are waiting for the report from GSPCB following which action will be initiated.
It may be recalled that Panch William Mascarenhas had filed a police complaint against the company management when the first incident was reported on September 20.
