MARGAO: Feeling let down by the two MLAs of Margao and Fatorda in the face of no trust motion against him, beleaguered Margao Municipal Chairperson Arthur D’Silva on Saturday is believed to have met some BJP leaders and is weighing various options, including embracing the BJP after September 18.
Sources said the municipal chairperson has told his friends and well wishers that he would disclose his future political plans only after September 18 – after the no trust motion is taken up for discussions.
When contacted, Arthur said members of his group will take a collective decision whether to join the BJP or not after the motion of no confidence. “I am weighing various options, including the option of joining the BJP. People will come to know about my decision after September 18. I feel sad that both Digambar Kamat and Vijai Sardessai did not ask me to step down from office. I would have resigned from the post if they had told me to quit”, he said.
The eight-member Arthur Group in the Municipality openly blames both Digambar and Vijai for being behind the toppling bid, though the two MLAs have publicly denied their hand in the no confidence motion. “Initially, I believed that Digambar had no hand behind the no-confidence motion. But, I am now convinced that the Margao MLA played his role”, Arthur said.
Sources in the know that the 12-member group, including six Digambar Kamat backed councillors, are determined to unseat Arthur from office. They maintained that they are all united and will ensure that Arthur is voted out of office on September 18.
