PANJIM: Mandopa Sports Club thrashed Cortalim Villagers SSWA 5-0 in the Second Division League (play offs) organised by Goa Football Association (GFA), played at Artificial Turf, Fatorda, on Monday.
The Mandopa side opened the scoring in the 10th minute through Presly Gomes. Mandopa  dominated play  and pressed hard to find more goals. The winners managed to add another second goal just before half time, through Clinton Dias who made it 2-0 at the 41st minute.
The second half saw the Cortalim side drop low in the entire session as they failed to move forward. The Mandopa side gained full control and surged ahead and made it 3-0 in the 53rd minute as Avlon Gomes neatly placed the ball into the post.
The last ten minutes added further misery on the losing team as Avlon Gomes completed his hat- trick adding two goals in the 83rd and 90+1 minute to register a five star performance over the Cortalim side.
In another game held at Ambelim ground, Varca Sports Club came from behind to hold Mormugao UCSC to a 1-1 draw.
The game got off to an even start with both sides having equal possession and moving forward. But the defenders of both the sides stood strong and cancelled out each others chances. However, Elroy Fernandes of the Port Town side managed to sneak past one the defence of the Varca side and scored into the post.
They lead 1-0 at the interval. The second half failed to see any potent attempts from either sides and Jhonus D’Costa saved the day for the Varca side as his equaliser made both sides share points.
