Spandan’s art festival – a month-long event
featuring art workshops, demonstrations, photography and all things art, was
inaugurated yesterday with a two-day photography and painting exhibition named,
‘Art – an expression of love’ by 16 artists from Bhavnagar in Gujarat. The
exhibition that is currently underway at the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG)
art gallery in Panjim, will be followed by a solo painting exhibition from
September 26 to 30, 2014 by Satya, an artist from Bangalore.
Curator and organiser of the event, Anant
Vikas says, “Just as there is need for religious and spiritual leaders in our
community, there is also a need for artists. We need people, not those whose
sole purpose is to win the rat race but those who want to slow down and notice
the beauty that surrounds us. These artists will allow us to experience the
world from a new perspective.”

The festival will also feature national art
exhibitions that will be held at Kala Academy and ESG art galleries. All the
participating artists, who come from Goa and other states of India, will infuse
regional flavour in their work. According to the organisers, the main motive
behind conducting these exhibitions is to promote talented upcoming artists and
to provide a platform to sell and promote their art.
Apart from art exhibitions, the art
festival will also have other activities like workshops, demonstrations, art
competitions, interactions, etc. The festival will see active participation
from the students of Goa College of Art and other institutes. The festival
concludes on October 22, 2014.
