PANJIM: Pope John XXIII HS defeated Guardian Angel HS 1-0 in the finals of U-14 football tournament for Quepem Taluka organized by DSYA at panchayat ground, Xeldem.
Pope John dictated terms and could have gone ahead in the 12th minute when Lesley Rebello sent a smart through pass for Beriton who shot over the onrushing goalkeeper.
Prescio, Baggio, Joel and Beriton raided the rival penalty area time and again but a goal eluded them. However, in the 18th minute, Baggio collected a stray ball, dribbled past a couple of defenders and shot into the goal for what turned out to be the match-winner.
Fr Dominic Savio Fernandes, principal, was the chief guest and gave away the certificates.
