2 women held, 3 rescued in sex trade raid

CALANGUTE, JUNE 18 Calangute police on Friday afternoon arrested two women, while three other women were rescued, in a sex trade-related raid at a guest house at Umtta Vaddo, Calangute.

Calangute police on Friday afternoon arrested two women, while three other women were rescued, in a sex trade-related raid at a guest house at Umtta Vaddo, Calangute.
According to Calangute police, the raid was carried out following a tip-off from reliable sources and five women were rounded up.
After thorough investigation, it was revealed that two women, Saraswati alias Shanti Debugkar and Muskan Shaikh alias Jyoti, both from Andhra Pradesh, had brought the other three women for making a living.
The duo, who confessed their involvement in the prostitution racket, has been taken into custody under Sections 4, 5 and 7 of Immoral Traffic Act.
The other three women have been sent to Merces Protection Home, while the detained duo will be produced before JMFC Mapusa for judicial custody. PI Nolasco Raposo is investigating the case.
Speaking to Herald, PI Nolasco Raposo said: “Our drive against those involved in sex trade or drug peddling will continue and we will leave no stone unturned in our clean-up drive. The interrogation was conducted in the presence of NGOs.”
