panjim: After Kanpur, Mumbai and Ahmedabad, the Central Government is considering setting up an Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) in Goa on public private partnership (PPP) mode.

During the signing of an agreement for setting up the International Skill Hub in the coastal State, the State Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Vishwajit Rane moved a proposal to Union Ministry for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship to consider IIS for Goa.
Rane added that the State government is ready to provide the required land and all other infrastructure for setting up the institution, which will help in strengthening skilling ecosystem in Goa as well as entire country.
Agreeing to the proposal in-principle, Union Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey said that he is ready to hold talks with the State government with regards to setting up IIS on PPP model.
“We have already collaborated with Tata Education Development Trust for facility in Mumbai. Also a huge project is also coming up in Ahmedabad. The facility requires huge land,” he said.
“We can hold talks in detail in this regard and then go ahead with it,” Pandey stated.
The IISs is being planned by the Union Government to be flagship institutes to promote skill development among the youth of the country. The institutes will follow the model of IITs i.e. Indian Institutes of Technology and will be developed all across the country as an agency offering opportunities and advanced learning facilities students to aid in their skill development.
