PONDA: In a bid to nurture academically weaker students, PWD and Transport Minister Sudin Dhavalikar expressed his desire to take help from women self help groups to train the students.
“I have an idea in my mind to involve women self help groups from Marcaim constituency to impart tuitions to students from the constituency who are weaker in academics,” said Dhavlikar after launching Kavlem Banodra Self Help Group Federation, a cluster of about 95 women self help groups from Queula and Bandora panchayat areas.
“Students especially from Std 8 who are weak in either language or any other subjects will be given tuitions in that particular subject. After identifying such students, I plan to take help from women self groups and some resource persons to impart tuitions to these students,” he said.
According to sources, presently through Madhavarao Dhavlikar Trust, women self help groups from Marcaim constituency are provided training in various skills like cooking, tailoring, etc.
“There are about 355 self help groups in Marcaim constituency and every month 13-14 training courses are conducted. I will also try and allot shop to the Kavlem Banodra Self Help Group Federation at Kundaim and also in Ponda city so that these self help groups can market goods produced by them,” informed Dhavlikar.
Queula Sarpanch Rajesh Kavlekar, ZP member Poornima Naik, Shaila Borkar, Bandora Deputy Sarpanch Ramchandra Naik, Kavlem Banodra Self Help Group Federation President Anuradha Kankonkar and panchas from Queula and Bandora Panchayats were present.
