PANJIM: Slamming Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for asking Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members not to keep people aside on the basis of caste or religion else they will come under the influence of so-called ‘Urban Naxals’, social activists on Sunday demanded that the Chief Minister should come clear on these naxalites.
Speaking to reporters, social activist Rama Kankonkar said, “Chief Minister says there are naxalites. The question is who these naxalites are and where are they? Are people from Keri, who are fighting for electricity supply, naxalites or those, who are struggling for proper roads and regular water supply? Are people of Bhoma, who are protesting against road widening naxalites or those, who are fighting against misappropriation of funds allocated for the welfare of tribals or those, who are fighting for notifying tribal areas?”

“The Chief Minister must clarify who are the naxalites in the State. If there are Naxalites in the State then why has the Chief Minister, who also happens to be the Home Minister of the State, failed to get them arrested? Kankonkar asked.
He demanded that the Chief Minister must seek an apology from the people over his statement.
Social activist Xencor Polgi said, “Chief Minister should visit the areas where the Scheduled Tribes stay. They are so simple that they have not come on streets to protest for their rights. But now when their votes are required, the chief minister is making mention of them. He is giving a tag of the naxalites to the activists, which is totally wrong.’’
