PONDA: The Curti-Khandepar gram sabha on Sunday passed a resolution for bifurcating the panchayat into Curti and Khandepar panchayats.
However, Sarpanch Santan Fernandes and Secretary Sushant Naik said that the final decision on the bifurcation could be taken only by convening a special gram sabha. Before that, an awareness of the issue needs to be created among the locals; later, the proposal will have to be submitted to the government for further action.
Currently, the panchayat operates from Curti and Khandepar offices, three days each. Due to this, the locals from the respective areas get their works done only for three days in a week.
The Curti-Khandepar panchayat has 11 wards 15158 voters; Curti area is highly urbanized, while Khandepar is a rural area.
