MAJORDA: Vasco Veterans beat Chinchinim Veterans 2-1 to enter the final of the Veterans Football Tournament, organised in memory of Late Anthony Baptista, held at Musson ground, Majorda on Tuesday.
Vasco Veterans dominated the game from the first whistle.
Four minutes into the first half, Vasco captain Vishant Pednekar converted a beautiful cross by Cruz Pereira to open their account.
Vishant Pednekar in midfield and Shaikh Abu in defence were the two standout players in the first half for Vasco veterans and both of them combined in the 18th minute with Shaikh Abu converting Vishant’s corner kick with an unstoppable header to make it 2-0.
The second half started with Chinchinim Veterans pressing hard to get back into the game.
Francis Fernandes missed a golden chance to score the first goal for Chinchinim Veterans when he missed an open chance on goal.
Three minutes before the final whistle, Elvis Goes of Chinchinim scored a consolation goal by beautifully weaving through two defenders.
Chinchinim strikers failed to beat the tough Vasco defence as they defended resolutely.
Vasco Veterans will play the winners of the second semi-finals on January 2.
